L'opera è stata un flusso di coscienza che ha ripercorso a ritroso la giornata appena trascorsa dopo il trauma vissuto dalla donna: la morte del suo amato. La musica ha saputo descrivere quel momento bloccato, quell'istante in cui ci si rende conto di aver perso qualcosa, una fissità ghiacciata che si spezza dentro di noi e da cui non vi è più ritorno. Parole e pochi suoni hanno colto nel cuore e hanno dato intensità emotiva."

Il singolo che compie un suo percorso esplorativo, un viaggio personale intervallato con il dialogo con altre individualità e i loro mondi. Un percorso incalzante e polifonico che trasmette sogni esemplari ma anche riflessioni amare, speranze rigorose. De Sena regala una performance estrosa come da tradizione esaltando l'orchestra e la direzione di Rustioni."

It was such a privilege that my piece for trumpet and orchestra In cerchi concentrici has been chosen to open the 2019/2020 season of the Orchestra della Toscana at the Teatro Verdi in Florence.
I was really impressed by the warm reaction of the public and it was a wonderful experience with an amazing group of musicians. A special thank to Donato De Sena for his solo performance and to Daniele Rustioni for his conducting.

18.10.2016 A review of Funeral Play opera by Amadeus Online

The music magazine Amadeus has put online Letizia Michielon’s review of my first chamber opera performed at the Biennale di Venezia:
"La problematica esistenziale legata a distorte dinamiche familiari caratterizza anche Funeral Play, parossistica messa in scena di una storia vera, avvenuta in Cina nel 2013: il desiderio di non perdere la festa del proprio funerale aveva spinto infatti la ventitreenne Zeng Jia all’assurda decisione di organizzare la propria cerimonia funebre e di prendervi contemporaneamente parte. Nel libretto di Sara Cavosi, però, le motivazioni della protagonista Aika, interpretata dall’abile e smaliziata Kurumi Yanagi, risiedono in un lutto non superato suscitato dalla perdita della madre e dal desiderio di attirare le attenzioni di un padre anaffettivo, impersonato dal basso Xiao Shengtao. Il monumento funebre troneggia al centro della scena, circondato da un sipario bianco su cui vengono proiettate scritte pubblicitarie di imprese funerarie specializzate in cerimonie di commiato. Aika invita i propri follower al suo funerale e la bara si trasforma in uno spazio neutro che grazie alle luci può assumere anche le sembianze di un iPhone dallo schermo luminoso. La partitura di Caterina Di Cecca staglia fissità ghiacciate e rievoca l’annichilente assenza che caratterizza la morte. La messa in scena della morte, pur essendo una finzione, genera però verità sorprendenti e drammatiche. Se da una parte infatti ricongiunge Aika al padre, dall’altra origina morte autentica perché la ragazza, ossessionata dal documentare con un selfie la propria fine, rimane chiusa dentro la bara. La lapide non si solleva più e il funeral planner, una volta incassato il denaro, la lascia dentro senza riaprire la bara per salvarla. Anche il cellulare si scarica e il desiderio di immortalare un momento irripetibile come quello del (finto) trapasso, si tramuta grottescamente in morte autentica. Questo istante tragico rappresenta l’unico momento di verità inoppugnabile nella nostra esistenza, la sola esperienza su cui all’uomo non è dato scherzare e che è vietato documentare. Un silenzio truce ingoia l’ansia spasmodica di pronunciare misteri insondabili: scacco matto alla cultura del Grande Fratello che tutto vorrebbe condividere e banalmente appiattire."

"Останнім прозвучав твір учасниці з Італії – Катеріни ді Чекки. Драматургія її твору настільки яскраво передала фабулу літературного першоджерела (роману «Похвальне слово мачусі» Маріо Варгаса Льйоси), що мені самій захотілося його прочитати. Це були не просто музичні діалоги між фортепіано, віолончеллю та скрипкою – це справжній «любовний трикутник» (батько, син, нова дружина батька), втілений через голоси інструментів. Можливо, це був би гарний сюжет для опери. Але чи потрібно писати оперу, якщо молодій композиторці вдалося так правдиво передати ситуацію без зайвих слів та сценічної дії?"

"L'ultima ad essere presentata è stata un’opera di una partecipante italiana – Caterina di Cecca. La drammaturgia del suo lavoro ha trasmesso così vividamente la trama della fonte letteraria (il romanzo "Elogio della matrigna" di Mario Vargas Llosa) che io stesso volevo leggerlo. Non si trattava solo di dialoghi musicali tra pianoforte, violoncello e violino, ma di un vero e proprio "triangolo amoroso" (padre, figlio, nuova moglie del padre) incarnato attraverso le voci degli strumenti. Forse sarebbe una buona trama d’opera. Ma è necessario scrivere un'opera se la giovane compositrice è riuscita a trasmettere la situazione in modo così veritiero senza parole inutili e azioni sceniche?"

13–20.03.2016 In Lviv for the V International Master Classes of New Music Course

During the IMCNM course of Lviv, I have finished to write the first part of my new piano trio, Dédalo y Sensación, that has been performed by Ensemble Nostri Temporis. Thanks to this piece, I won two contests after the concert at the end of course and so I have received two commissions for string orchestra, one for the Lviv Virtuosos String Orchestra and the other for the Collegium Music Chamber Orchestra.

08.02.2016 Winner of the Biennale College – Music 3rd edition (Venice)

I am happy and honored that Funeral Play, my first chamber opera (libretto: Sara Cavosi; director, set design and costumes: Valentina Rosati), is one of the four winning project of the Biennale College – Music 3rd edition. It will be staged in October 2016 during the 60th International Festival of Contemporary Music – Biennale Musica. [Tutors: the composers Luca Mosca and Salvatore Sciarrino, the dramaturges Sergio Casesi and Giuliano Corti, the directors Nicholas Hunt and Franco Ripa di Meana]

05.02.2016 Winner of the Franco Donatoni International Meeting for Young Composers – IV edition (Milan)

I am happy and honored to be among the three winners of the Franco Donatoni International Meeting for Young Composers – IV edition. I have been commissioned a new composition for instrumental and vocal ensemble to be performed during the Rondò 2017 concert season by Divertimento Ensemble and Neue Vocalsolisten.
